Oil filter for your car
During the operation of automobile engines, engine oil is gradually contaminated with various impurities, dust, sludge, wear products and other small particles. To protect the motor from premature wear, cars are equipped with special oil filters , which carry out mechanical cleaning of the working lubricating fluid.
Engine Oil Filtration Methods
Different oil filters are used in passenger cars and commercial vehicles , the price of which can vary significantly. So, sedans and other oversized cars use the only full-flow filtration devices that clean all the engine oil in the line. This places more stringent requirements on consumables.
In this case, the amount of working fluid in the system also plays an important role. So, an oil filter for a Ford with 5 liters will last much longer than in the case of a car with a 3-liter system, and all because of the lower turnover of the working fluid. Fast failure is due to intensive oxidation of additives and the formation of wear products, as well as less efficient cooling.
Diesels of commercial vehicles, especially those with highly loaded internal combustion engines, are equipped with auxiliary filtering parts in addition to the full-flow element. So, the centrifuge cleans the working fluid from solid particles due to centrifugal force, and part-flow (bypass - bypass) models are designed for finer screening of fine contaminants and additives. Unlike full-flow elements, 10-15% of the oil contained in the line passes through the bypass filtration devices in one cycle.
The need to replace filter devices
The intensity of wear of the working fluid depends on various factors, including the current condition of the engine, the driving style of the car owner, the quality of the fuel used. In any case, at some point it becomes necessary to replace the engine oil filter .
In accordance with the regulations, it is recommended to change filter parts for passenger cars every 10, 15 or 20 thousand kilometers (depending on the type of engine, the number of filter elements installed, the make and model of the car). For commercial vehicles, the regularity of changing the filtration part is somewhat increased - 40, 60 and 80 thousand km. Note that together with the main filtering part, the oil filter gasket should be replaced .
Types of filter elements
To buy the right consumable, you need to understand which oil filter was installed on a particular car. Depending on the configuration, filtration parts are divided into the following types:
Non-separable (spin-on): are oil filters in a metal housing that change as a whole.
Cartridges: a special base that is inserted into a special seat located in the body of the engine itself.
The configuration of the filtering device does not affect the quality of engine oil cleaning - the degree and efficiency of filtration depend on the properties of the filter cloth.
